The task was to design a sustainable cohousing complex in the center of Aalborg. It was thus interesting as It wasn’t only an ordinary place to live, it was also a place to coexist, integrate and create a community.

The main feature of living in a community is equality. So that is strongly reflected in the shape of a circle. Equal distance from the circle’s boundary to the central point gives also a chance to look in the same direction, towards the same important thing - the community.

The circle on the plot has been multiplied and shifted in order to meet the required number of apartments. This newly created shape was crossed with the access routes from the most used directions. 

Then the shape was raised and examined due to the solar radiation and finished by removing floors in the south and adding floors on the northern part to distribute sunlight evenly.

Thanks to this shape of a building, one big community created by three smaller clusters, with their individual common rooms, is connected to one common outdoor zone.
